Raman Spectrometric Analysis of Corrosion Products from Ancient Bronzes Excavated from Jiuliandun Tombs

More Information
  • Received Date: June 26, 2006
  • Revised Date: September 24, 2006
  • Raman microspectrometry was used to identify the corrosion products from ancient bronzes excavated from Jiuliandun tombs. The results indicate that malachite CuCO3·Cu(OH)2 is the main substance of green corrosion product; azurite 2CuCO3·Cu(OH)2 is the main substance of blue corrosion product and paratacamite Cu2(OH)3Cl is the main substance of slightly green corrosion product. Based on the analytical results, the scientific methods for protection of the ancient bronzes are proposed.
