Simulataneous Determination of Li, Na, K, Ca, Mg, B, S, Cl in Brine by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry

  • As reported in this paper, lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, boron, sulfur and chlorine in brine were determined by Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry (ICP-AES). Test conditions were optimized, such as the RF power of 1400 W, the torch tube position of -3 and the carrier gas flow rate of 0.60 L/min. The correct analytic lines were selected. According to the ICP-AES in two-way observation mode, low contents of Mg, K, Ca, S, Cl, B and Li were determined by using axial observation and high content of Na, K and Mg were determined with radial observation, which ensured the simultaneous determination of multi-elements in brine. Detection limits of Li, Na, K, Ca, Mg, B and S were 0.07~3.00 mg/L, and the detection limit of Cl was 165 mg/L. The results indicated that the relative standard deviation for all elements was less than 5% in the accuracy test. The recoveries of standard addition were between 92.4% and 109.7% in this method. The determination results of Na, K, Mg, S and Cl were in good agreement with the results of traditional methods.
