Determination of Available Molybdenum in Soils by End-view Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometry

ABSTRACT
A method for the determination of available molybdenum in soils by end-view inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) was described. The available Mo in soil samples was extracted by oxalic acid- ammonium oxalate. A portion of the extracted solution in a beaker was then put on a hot plate and heated to dry in order to decompose oxalate, the residues were then dissolved with sulphuric acid solution. The available molybdenum in solution is measured by end-view ICP-AES. The detection limit of method is 0.013 μg/g for available Mo. The method has been applied to the determination of available Mo in National Standard Reference Materials and the results are in good agreement with certified values with precision of 2.13%~6.70%RSD (n=12) .
