A high performance liquid chromatography-ultraviolet spectrometry(HPLC-UV) method has been developed for determination of hydroquinone bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ether (HQEE) and hydroquinone in industrial HQEE, a kind of polyurethane chainextender. Separation of HQEE, hydroquinone and other relative impurities was achieved on a LiChrospher CN column by using methanolwater1% aqueous acetic acid solution (10∶50∶40, V/V/V) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. Detection was operated by UV absorption at a wavelength of 285 nm. The method is rapid, reliable and suitable for effective control and improving HQEE quality in synthesis.
