Determination of Major and Minor Components in Sea Sediment Samples by Fused Bead-X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometry

  • A method for the determination of major and minor elements including SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, MgO, CaO, Na2O, K2O, P2O5, TiO2, MnO, BaO, Ni, Cu, V, Cr and Zn in sea sediment samples by Axios X-ray fluorescence spectrometer with mixed flux fusion pellets was proposed. The matrix effect was corrected using theoretical alpha coefficient method. The precision of the method are less than 6% for Cu and Cr and less than 2% for most other major and minor components. The method has been applied to the determination of major and minor components in National Standard Reference Materials (sea sediments) and the results are in agreement with the certified values.
