The Elemental Characteristics of Celadon Glaze from Xicun Klin and Yaozhou Kiln in Song Dynasty

  • In this paper, 18 pieces of celadon samples from Xicun kiln and Yazhou kiln were analyzed in-situ and non-destructively by microfocus-EDXRF. The analysis results indicated that most celadon body from both kilns had the same characteristic of high content of Al2O3 and lower SiO2, but different in microelement content. The celadon body from Xicun kiln had the characteristic of high content of Rb and lower content of Cr, Zr, Sr. The analysis results also indicated that celadon samples from both kilns added the plant ash as the flux in the glaze. And all the glaze from Yaozhou kiln belonged to calcium glaze and some glaze from Xicun kiln belonged to calcium glaze, even though most samples from Xicun kiln belonged to calcium-alkali glaze. And celadon glaze from Xicun kiln had the characteristic of high content of Rb and lower content of Sr. These characteristics could provide an index for discriminating the provenance of celadon from Xicun kiln.
